1. going from neutral to 1st requires that you are all but stopped. I think it 'clunks' into 1st with just about any motion.
2. going from 4th to 5th there is the very definite deliberate pressure required . This is normal with all LS650s with 5 speed.
Any types of noises would not be normal. 3rd to 4ht should be smooth.
Finally, I would not compare this bike to other suzuki and I'd feel safe to say that you should not compare this bike to any other bike. It has its own unique characteristics.
Check your oil level and make sure it is high enough and make sure you change it at the 600 mile point as recommended. The clutch swims in that same oil.
